Title: Underground

Positioning Statement: The Underground kings of Indie

Price: £3.50 – My questionnaire showed that most people were willing to pay between three and four pounds, due to this I felt I’d go straight down the middle and price it at £3.50 to try and appeal to as many people as possible.

Distribution: I will sell the magazine at news agents and supermarkets. This is because my target audience are likely to visit one of these places and then see the magazine.

Rationale: The magazine is called underground as it has connotations with not being well known which I believe would appeal to the “hipster” segment of the indie market. The magazine will feature interviews with up and coming bands that aren’t known as well known; this is too once again appeal to “Hipsters” who like things that aren’t necessarily in the cultural mainstream. The magazine will help people discover quality music which wouldn’t necessarily be popular otherwise.
Style: The magazine will be informal and relaxed; it will be aimed at any Indie music fans and not as much the hard-core fans so it won’t contain the technical jargon that may be hard to understand for the more casual fans. Because of the light relaxed tone it will also have humorous insights into current events, and a tongue-in-cheek style of writing.
Regular Content:
·         Upcoming Gigs
·         Albums being released
·         Reviews of gigs
·         Reviews of Albums
·         Editors Letter
·         Band of the month
·         Competitions
·         Interview with up and coming band
·         Letters from fans
·         Posters
I have chosen this regular content as my questionnaire showed that interviews were the most popular thing they like about music magazines. Reviews were also fairly popular. The rest of the content I found were done by bigger music magazines in my research of the market place leading me to believe they are an important aspect of music magazines.

Feature Content:
·         Essentials for a gig
·         What to wear at a gig
·         Interview with Arctic Monkeys
·         Catfish and the Bottlemen – Before they were famous
·         Should you buy CD’s?
·         Top ten music videos this year
·         Mumford and Sons – How they took indie by storm
·         How to form a band
      Viola Beach - A Tribute
I have used these bands as the Arctic Monkeys and Catfish and the Bottlemen were proven to be very popular in my questionnaire and I know that Mumford and Sons are a popular and relevant band. I chose the other feature articles as I believe they would make interesting articles for consumers.
