Title: Underground
Positioning Statement: The Underground kings of Indie
Price: £3.50 – My questionnaire showed that
most people were willing to pay between three and four pounds, due to this I
felt I’d go straight down the middle and price it at £3.50 to try and appeal to
as many people as possible.
Distribution: I will sell the magazine at news
agents and supermarkets. This is because my target audience are likely to visit
one of these places and then see the magazine.
Rationale: The magazine is called underground as
it has connotations with not being well known which I believe would appeal to
the “hipster” segment of the indie market. The magazine will feature interviews
with up and coming bands that aren’t known as well known; this is too once
again appeal to “Hipsters” who like things that aren’t necessarily in the
cultural mainstream. The magazine will help people discover quality music which
wouldn’t necessarily be popular otherwise.
Style: The
magazine will be informal and relaxed; it will be aimed at any Indie music fans
and not as much the hard-core fans so it won’t contain the technical jargon
that may be hard to understand for the more casual fans. Because of the light
relaxed tone it will also have humorous insights into current events, and a
tongue-in-cheek style of writing.

I have
chosen this regular content as my questionnaire showed that interviews were the
most popular thing they like about music magazines. Reviews were also fairly
popular. The rest of the content I found were done by bigger music magazines in
my research of the market place leading me to believe they are an important
aspect of music magazines.

I have used
these bands as the Arctic Monkeys and Catfish and the Bottlemen were proven to
be very popular in my questionnaire and I know that Mumford and Sons are a
popular and relevant band. I chose the other feature articles as I believe they
would make interesting articles for consumers.

Initial Plans
Price: I will publish my magazine at £3.50. This is because 'Q', another Indie magazine that publishes monthly, offers their magazine at £3.99. I will charge less than 'Q' as 'Q' is already an established brand and can offer there magazine at a premium price, however I woudn't go below them by much as I still need to make a profit.
Frequency of publication:
I will publish my magazine once a month. This is because during my research I found that quality magazines such as 'Q' and 'The Fly' publish monthly. Also I believe by publishing monthly enough events will have happened in the indie genre for me to be able to get enough information for feature articles.
Size of Publication:
I have chosen to have 60 pages in my publication. This is because it is between the size of 'The Fly' and 'Q', which are both monthly productions.
Regulars:
I will include reviews, a gig guide, bands of the week and competitions to music events for example a festival.
Features:
Interviews with different artists within this genre of music.
